i. melodrama
  please, please, please;
  i cannot take a moment more.
  you know you're making a scene
             with your wallowing,
             with your wailing, and
             with your near-constant
                            wellaway

  and i cannot help but collect your
  chaotic complaints for later use;
  i'm just a shudder shy of shattering
  and all my shards are ammunition.

ii. dispassion
  some souls shroud themselves in
  clouded cloaks unfeeling;
  i suppose apathy is all the rage,
  but i cannot fall for nothing

  some souls are blank below the surface
  just moving through the motions
  and i, i'm one for conflagrations
  not those who are naught but embers

iii. entitlement
  i am no possession,
  no object, no prize,
  and my tongue will
  wax razorblades wild
  if you dare to
  treat me as such.

iv. arrogance
  "the most attractive trait is confidence"
      you've been told this time and again;
        but baby, your grin begins to grate
        when it self-congratulates so often
         and, while i'm sure that ego makes
               for a picturesque companion,
                   i think you'll find that
                    you, me, and the mirror
                          form an appalling
                             ménage à trois
The seventh piece in the 10 Days of Honesty prompt challenge; "Four turn-offs."

When Aslan created Narnia, he spoke these words; "Narnia, Narnia, Narnia, Awake. Love. Think. Speak." Sometimes I wish more people would pay attention to the order of the words. (Not entirely relevant to the prompt. But a little.)

"Wellaway" comes from Old English, and is used to express lamentation.

This hit SO hard, Sophia... I'm close to crying because I fell for a guy just like that and all I want to do is burn his memory right into the ground...

I SO relate to ii. People are so confused about why I broke up with my ex boyfriend when we had everything in common and he was seemingly perfect, and I've only just recently figured out what it was about him. Dispassion. He wasn't passionate about anything, least of all me. If we were texting about a movie or book we both loved, I'd be in all caps and barely making sense while he would calmly write about its merits. I like people who get excited about stuff, I guess. :)

(Okay, sorry for using your poem to rant. This was a really awesome poem. I'm really loving this series so far.)

Eep, I can totally relate to that, it's very similar to why I broke up with my last boyfriend.

(It's okay, ranting is totally acceptable! Thank yooou for the compliment!)

Ick, I hate those things too. I see a lot of dispassion in my work, when the teachers working with the children. Some of them don't belong there.

Wonderful poem, I love how you express each of the turn offs as something human like. :D

Ugh, that's horrible. Teachers who dislike children are a blight, seriously.

Thank you :heart:
