i must confess,
i have walked the highway's edge
flirting with the sidewalk, and
wondering whether to take
the one step towards the
rushing waves of traffic

i have balanced upon precipice
after precipice gazing downward,
the finality of flight a strange
and dangerous daydream
that pulls me in

and i have stood at water's ending
the sea a susurrous caress, and
yearned to move forward once,
again, again, until the ocean
can carry me home

so many storms i have weathered
so many burdens i have shouldered
and yet sometimes i forget the
most important thing of all;

i have made it this far,
i am here
i am worthy
i will go on.
Trigger warnings apply.

I really needed to write this.

and the diagonally striped yellow and black beacons
sometimes beckon, instead of drive me away . . .
and i wonder if the engine entering my ribcage
and the glass driving into my skull
would give me silence,

or leave me hanging on,
worse than ever before,
sustained by those love me
sustained by those who do it because they must.

So I keep driving,
the small adrenaline rush wilting away . . . .

---edit---

Sophia,

We are here, still.
Let us be here, rippling.

Love! I honestly think that everyone can relate to this one some level, but it really spoke to me. It appears we have both had burdens we must shoulder, but I love your ending message. We are here, we are worthy, and we must go on. I think the fact we must go on is important. I absolutely love your writings and your messages.

I'm glad that you liked it. Less glad that you (and so many others) can relate to it, but at least the ending message is somewhat uplifting?

Thank you

As much as we can relate to it, there is always the positive that the ending makes us feel inspired. :)

And you are welcome.

Firstly, good on you for the "trigger warnings apply" it's something I need to incorporate in my own writing at times and I admit this did take me back to a few particular days.

Secondly, this is lovely, and forgive me for saying this if I'm incorrect but I feel "from great pain comes great literature" is true in your case

The mildly frustrating thing about the author's note is that it lies below the actual deviation. I don't think this piece is triggering enough to warrant a "mature" rating, but I do think that people should see the trigger warning before they read the actual piece. SIGH. Ah well.

Thank you so much for the compliment . I agree with the "great pain" part :P
